If they fumble on a game I wont put money into any areas I feel are unfair, and I will be voicing my disapproval alongside you. I personally expect to see Sony’s games live up to the $70 tag. If God of War Ragnarok releases for $70 and no online component, but has microtransactions anyway, then that would be on Sony as the publisher. Im sure you will personally be able to tell the difference and pick your purchases accordingly. Still, spiting the companies who make too much already is not worth holding back the studios who will take the $70 cost and put it to good use and give us better games. There will be companies that exploit any financial opportunity available, and they will piss us off with $70 games and overpriced DLC and microtransactions. They dont let just any game add a $70 price tag, or even $60. Note that Sony has criteria for what a game can cost. Imagine if games were still $60 on PS6! Microtransactions and the like would be everywhere, and of course year over year gains would still be improving, because people are clever and even honest companies will find solutions to charge us if the need is created by inflation. Sony and XB needs to allow $70 cost so that we dont find more and more games having to resort to these frustrating monetization schemes that were likely only exacerbated by the decreasingly valuable $60 tag. Keep in mind some games have no extra costs at all. It seems like you are fixated on the worst case examples of monetization and the irritation is distracting you from the more typical examples and best case examples that this $70 tag is intended to help. These should be considered by game and publisher, not by the platforms those games release on. There are various models to sustain costs of ongoing support for games, and to simply increase profitability in more “ambitious” cases.
